What particular experience has contributed to your desire to work with a progressive organization and participate in the NLP? What do you hope to gain from participating?
I have been blessed to experience many unique opportunities and perspectives. Since high school, I have had a sincere interest in ethical and principled leadership. That ranges from the community service I have been involved in, to political activism. I once served as the co-chair of the College Democrats of America's Black Caucus and participated in conference calls with Terry McAuliffe. Though I attended Eureka College, not a Historically Black College/University (HBCU), I wrote a plan for the Democratic National Committee to reach out to HBCU students. Because of my volunteer service with "Friends of Hillary," I once had the opportunity to drive in Bill and Hillary Clinton's motorcade during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. I was at the tarmac waiting on both Clinton's to arrive. And, most recently, I had the opportunity to introduce President Bill Clinton at a "Solutions for America" tour in Southern Illinois. I believe that the New Leaders program will give me the opportunity to build on my leadership skills. I know that I will be a student for the rest of my life, and this type of program will give me a skill set to meet the needs of a changing society. I look forward to connecting with other leaders who have worked tirelessly to serve their community.
