- Ben Masters,
2008 New Leaders Summer Intern
What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about the creation of safe spaces for LGBTQ and Ally people to build relationships and dialogue with non-affirming communities, and policy that encourages engagement in social services.

What do you hope to take away from your experience as a CPL New Leader?
My experience as a queer Christian shapes the way I engage with the world. My leadership in our campus’ Pride Alliance has in part been inspired by the welcoming and life-giving ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Looking towards the future I am discerning a call to ordained ministry within the Metropolitan Community Church, a denomination that began with the liberation of LGBT people. However, service in a congregation is only one part of the greater call to heal the world of social injustice and inequality. I intend to integrate social service into my ministry, working to bring the Reign of God among those battered and enslaved by the current societal rule of oppression, rejection, and fear. I believe that the New Leaders program offers an opportunity to more fully understand this work.
