"The struggles I have encountered have given me the ability to relate to those minorities who experience multiple levels of oppression because of their age, sexual orientation, gender identity, geographic location, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic background. "

- Andrew Todd Figueroa Kunka,
2008 New Leaders Summer Intern
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about standing as advocate for those individuals and communities who face injustice on our society.

You're stranded on a deserted island. What is the one book or album you cannot live without?
In order to survive I would need a two part book; part 1 would be a copy of Claire Llewellyn book “Survive on a Desert Island”, and part two would be an album that had photos of my father. I would need Part 1 to survive physically, and part 2 in order to remember that I must stay alive so that I can advocate for others. If not for the love, compassion, and commitment of my father I know that I would person I am today.

What do you hope to take away from your experience as a CPL New Leader?
As a New Leader I want to be challenged as leader, follower, and advocate. I also hope to expand my progressive network in order to make the connections I will need to become powerful voice against injustice.
