2008 New Leaders Summer Interns

Jennifer Castillo

Jennifer Castillo

Hometown: Lawrence, MA

Age: 21

School: Boston College

Interests:

Internship: Roosevelt Institution

Jennifer immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic when she was three years old, and since then has lived in Lawrence, MA. While in high school, she became aware of the ways that immigrant families in Lawrence are disenfranchised, discriminated against and denied basic rights. Since then, Jennifer has become an ardent advocate for the rights of immigrants and refugees. Currently, she is involved in the African, Hispanic, Asian, and Native-American (AHANA) Leadership Council (ALC) at Boston College. The council is dedicated to obtaining absolute justice for all members of the AHANA community, and the greater Boston College community.

"I hope to gain the tools to continue to serve others."

- Jennifer Castillo,
2008 New Leaders Summer Intern
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about immigration issues and reforming our existing criminal justice system.

What do you hope to take away from your experience as a CPL New Leader?
I hope to gain the tools to continue to serve others while simultaneously developing my advocacy skills as a CPL New Leaders Intern, and the opportunity to engage with a community of young, political and advocacy leaders who are all dedicated to advancing social justice and equality in our society.
